Mobile phones and driving
Using a mobile phone, sat nav or any similar device whilst driving means that the driver’s attention is distracted from the road. Drivers risk prosecution for not having proper control of a vehicle if seen by the police using a mobile phone (or other electronic device).
The NIDirect link below outlines the legal position, how a driver is breaking the law and penalties.

The think.direct link below also lists useful information including video clips showing what it is like to be distracted by a mobile phone.

The RoSPA link below contains similar information to that above but also gives advice on what employers should do and a template mobile phone policy which we’ve converted into a word document.
This can be adopted as written or adapted to suit your organisation’s needs, as a stand-alone policy or incorporated into a wider ‘Driving for Work’ policy.
